Otc Muscle Relaxer

Today in a note and email from the Twitter API Team, Twitter has outlined upcoming changes to its gelocation API.

As it stands now, users can create “geo-tweets,” or Tweets that are tagged with very specific GPS coordinates. The level of specificity unnerves some users who are wary to give away such personal and actionable information.

Twitter is out to make that all much better. The upcoming changes include giving coordinates context, turning them into locations. People “inherently want to talk about a “place”.  a place, for a lot of people, has a name and is not a latitude and longitude pair.” Look out Foursquare? At the moment, just what a location means and how it will be created and manged is unclear.

Twitter does highlight code examples as to how a tweet will be tagged in SoMa, but how the location is first built is still not specified. Developers, if I have this wrong, drop a note in the comments.

Twitter is also going to “help users who aren’t comfortable annotating their tweets with their exact coordinates, but, instead, are really happy to say what city, or even neighborhood, they are in.” This of course will give users a variety of privacy options, giving everyone a level that they are comfortable with.

Finally, “annotating your place with a name does that too,” meaning that new API upgrades will be flexible enough to handle location in many new configurations.

Big upcoming upgrades that are going to help Twitter continue to grow and improve. Of course, this will do nothing to solve Twitter’s continuing problem: uptime.

This “first pass” will only apply to US data, sadly. This will b rapidly expanded. Twitter also requests that all questions are sent to @TwitterAPI.

Hat tip @zacwitte.

They're cooking up vats of gumbo right now in New Orleans, they've sold countless King Cakes and made a profusion of pralines. They've been partying since the Saints won the Superbowl and it all reaches critical mass tomorrow, Mardi Gras.

French for Fat Tuesday, it's not just cheap beads and anonymous orgying (not that there's anything wrong with that). Mardi Gras is the day before Ash Wednesday, when Catholics begin the Lenten 40 days of penance, prayer and cleansing before Easter. Traditionally, Mardi Gras was a night of eating rich food, the better to endure the lean days of Lent. New Orleans embraced the concept with typical passion. It seems like half the regional recipes start with a cup of heavy cream (not that there's anything wrong with that, either). Somehow, the custom evolved into partying, drinking and eating dirty rice — none of which is exactly sanctioned by the Catholic Church.

Clearly, New Orleans has its own way of doing things. The locals live by the city's motto, laissez les bon temps rouller — let the good times roll — and it comes through in their cooking. Like every region, New Orleans has its own cuisine shaped by what grows there, but also by the people who live there.

New Orleans newbies Brangelina and their babes may have brought the paparazzi, but the centuries-old city's spicy mix of Cajun, Creole and French took the abundant local ingredients, including rice, chilis, greens, okra, mirliton (chayote) and gulf-fresh seafood, and created its cuisine. These people make food that cooks, and they're proud of it. You can't get a fast food burger at the Jazz and Heritage Festival, but you can get New Orleans specialties like red beans and rice, crowder peas and okra and sandwiches from muffalettas to banh mi, a culinary contibution from the Vietnamese.

Food helped unite the city after Hurricane Katrina wiped it out five years ago. Local chef John Besh lost his home and his restaurants but dished out red beans and rice to refugees and relief workers. New Orleans native Richard McCarthy rebuilt Crescent City Farmers Market, now a city-wide, three-day market with local growers and vendors grossing $9 million a year. Katrina also did in the homes and gardens in the city's Vietnamese community, so they created what is now a flourishing 28-acre community garden to grow bitter melon, Malabar spinach and other crops they brought from Asia. They're adding their own layer of culture, tradition and taste to the city. They party at Mardi Gras but yesterday they also celebrated Tet, the Vietnamese new year.

What New Orleans grows, what it cooks comes from love and what Besh calls “an act of stewardship.” Everyone's got a personal stake in this.

Food goes beyond the plate. There's its traditions, how its sourced, its romance and history, the powerful associations it evokes. You can't eat these things and yet they deepen your experience and appreciation of your food. They add their own spice. They make you care. So you can forgive the Mardi Gras madness in the French Quarter tomorrow, because you know everything will be made lovingly, locally, traditionally and liberally seasoned with joy. Food at its source tastes of the spirit of a place and in New Orleans, that means laissez les bon temps rouller.

Down and Dirty Rice

Traditionally what makes dirty rice dirty is the addition of fowl gizzards. Um, no thanks. Chopped eggplant, a Louisiana crop, takes the place of organ meat in this super-satisfying veggie version It's spicy in itself, but you can make it that way. That's what Tabasco is for.

1-1/2 cup rice (white or brown)
5 cups water or vegetable broth, divided use
1 bay leaf
1 tablespoon olive oil
6 cloves garlic, chopped
1 large onion, chopped
1 medium eggplant, chopped
3 ribs celery, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
1 tomato, chopped (or 1 15-ounce can diced tomatoes)
2 teaspoons paprika
1 handful fresh thyme leaves (or 1 teaspoon dried)
sea salt and fresh ground pepper to taste
juice of 1 lemon
1 bunch fresh parsley, chopped
optional — 1 cup edamame

Pour 3 cups of water or broth into a large pot. Place over high heat and bring liquid to boil. Add rice and bay leaf and give a quick stir. Cover and reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes (brown rice may need an additional 10 minutes) or until rice is tender and all liquid is absorbed. Remove bay leaf and set aside.

May be done a day or two ahead and stored well-covered in refrigerator. Bring to room temperature before proceeding.

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add chopped garlic, onion and eggplant. Saute, stirring for 5 minutes, or until vegetables soften. Add chopped celery, green pepper, tomato, paprika and thyme. Continue cooking another 5 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in rice and remaining 2 cups of water or broth.

Reduce heat to medium and cook another 10 minutes until mixture is moist but all liquid is absorbed.

Stir in salt, pepper, lemon juice and chopped parsley, and for a pop of protein and bright green color, fold in optional edamame.

Serves 6 to 8. Keeps several days in the fridge, flavor improves over time.

Losing weight is such a big hurdle for one to take.

For some it can cause a fortune, like of those going to gastric bypass that is very common these days.

But, why do we have to spend thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars just to shed off pounds and save our lives, when that stage or situation can actually be prevented. It's just a matter of us being seriously responsible to ourselves.

Both men and women's metabolism slows down as we age and this one thing that people who are in the mid-ages has to accept. Meaning, when one reaches the ages 30, it's most likely to see stomach fats (beer bellies) start to build up on men and on us women, it will be our arms, thighs, belly, buttocks and stomach too. And, these days, weight problems are also very common to teens, the young generations.

Indeed, there are countless of desperate people from young to old, who are in desparately in search for a weight-loss program that is proven to be effective and apparently choosing one is actually as hard as losing weight too.

There are tons and tons of bogus dietary plans and weight loss programs plaguing on the internet and the television that has no proven results to show and guaranty consumer.

What one has to know is that regardless of what plans or programs you would get into, the “real key” to a successful weight loss is within you, within yourselves. Set your goal, keep focus and be a winner!

Below are my 10 best ways to lose weight and be healthy all the way:

1. No to Salt and Sugar;

2. No to Oily, Fried or Fatty Foods;

3. No to Carbonated Drinks and Alcohol;

4. No to Junk Foods too;

5. No to Rice and other bad carbs on the evenings;

6. Yes to lean Meats and steam fishes on Lunches;

7. Yes to lots of Veggies and Fruits

8. Yes to More Cereals, Grains and Nuts;

9. Yes to 8 Glass of Water or more; and,

10.Yes to daily Exercise!

These 10 simple ways are very realistic and attainable.

Normally on holidays, especially from Thanksgiving until New year is done, it's so hard to keep on track of our weight because of the celebrations or festivity and food is simply just everywhere. That's when we should double our efforts to make ourselves active, to sweat and burn calories. Cardio exercises are highly complementing.

I discourage usage of diet pills and diet teas too, just to suppress hunger and boost energy drives. For most of those diet pills have so much caffeine and all others contents that can seriously harm one's liver and with the diet teas, those are not safe either, for they contain senna leaves; a strong laxative leaf that can badly damage the human intestine. So, stay away from those.

For those who can afford, it will be best to seek your physician's advice on your health condition and your desire to be healthy. In that way, you won't put your life in danger.

Nevertheless, nothing is still better than doing things naturally. It's safe, less expensive and risk free.

Just maintain discipline, keep focus, never give up and be fat free!

Health Fitness Tips: Road to proper health and fitness with tips and information by healthfitnesstip.com

People rag on Kathy Griffin, but I admire her spunk and willingness to put herself out there. She’s honest and fearless and while she can definitely be obnoxious there’s something admirable about her. I love people with big personalities who aren’t afraid to talk smack.

Kathy was a nominee at the Grammy Awards for Best Comedy Album for “Suckin’ It For The Holidays.” (She lost to Steven Colbert for “A Colbert Christmas.”) While she was on the red carpet talking to E!’s Guiliana Rancic, she revealed the secret to her hot body at 49:

Kathy Griffin may have had a nose job, lipo and an addiction to diet pills, but at the Grammys she maintained that her breasts are her own.

“They’re real, I’m not doing the Montag,” she said when Giuliana Rancic commented on her cleavage. “My body is slammin.”

“How are you getting this body?” asked Giuliana.

“It’s frustration and starvation,” said Kathy. “I’m cranky all the time and I’m hungry all the time.

“You look good, that’s all that matters,” said Giuliana.

Ryan Seacrest later commented that Kathy and Giuliana are looking more and more like sisters.

[From The Huffington Post]

On one hand I like that Kathy admits that it’s not easy to stay thin and that she’s hungry often. (Which reminds me of a comment that Julianne Moore once made that she was hungry all the time when she was dieting.) On the other hand it’s irresponsible to chalk her body up to “starvation” because it encourages crash dieting, which is not effective, comfortable or healthy. There are much better ways to lose weight and to make sure you’re getting enough to eat without going hungry. (I recommend Body for Life, Eat to Live, and Weight Watchers as sensible plans that have worked for me at various points.)

There’s some debate going on in the comments at the Huffington Post as to whether Kathy’s boobs are real or not. I figure that she’s copped to so much other plastic surgery that she’d admit it if she had a boob job. There’s a lot you can do with inserts and pushup bras. It’s still not all “natural,” but it’s not like you’ve had surgery.

Kathy was looking decidedly cat-like in some promotional appearances for her book right before the holidays. I checked and while she may have had some work done she’s also suffered from botched lasik eye surgery that significantly altered the shape of her eyelid, making it look raised. It looks like it’s settled by now anyway.

In other news about the abrasive comedienne, Griffin denied that she’s banned from CNN after dropping the F-bomb – again – during the live New Year’s Eve broadcast with silver fox Anderson Cooper. She also said that she went out for lunch with Cooper’s famous well-heeled mom, Gloria Vanderbilt, shortly afterwards.

Lift Weights 10 Minutes a Day, 3 Days a Week to Lose Belly Fat

Even if you don't care about having six-pack abs, studies show excess belly fat is unhealthy. Turns out just 30 minutes of weight lifting a week can make a big difference.

Many of the tips are things we've all heard before—like cut back on fatty foods and eat more fiber, but there's lots of cool ideas that aren't so obvious. For instance, did you know that a cardio workout you do after lifting weights will have a greater impact than if you do it before lifting?

Speaking of weightlifting, you don't have to power through 500 reps for an hour every day day to get results:

If you're lazy, it's not as bad as you think—just 10 minutes a day of lifting, three days a week, will help. Harvard research shows that 30 minutes of weight training per week has a greater reduction on waist size than almost any other variable.

Hit up the post for more ideas on how to blast belly fat and get svelte. Of course the tips will work for women and men so, ladies, we have no excuses for not heading over and grabbing some tips for ourselves.

Have you trimmed inches or pounds off your waistline? What exercise and diet tips worked for you? Let us know in the comments. Thanks Brian!

Hoodia gordonii X Hoodia pilifera hybrid flower bud by Martin_Heigan

Due to an increased market demand for genuine Hoodia and a temporary short supply of the already rare and difficult to grow plant, pure Hoodia is expensive. The Desert Burn brand of Hoodia (which I am taking and recommending because it is pure Hoodia and is working well for me) is expensive; one bottle of 60 (750 mg.) capsules sells for $59.95 per bottle, or 3 bottles for $149.95 (plus shipping and handling).

As I discussed in a previous article, I have only been able to identify 4 companies that I feel are selling pure Hoodia Gordonii, based on the criteria that I have researched for determining its authenticity. You may want to review some of my previous posts if you have any questions about that at this time. When comparing prices at these 4 sites, I took into consideration that the Desert Burn ZA is a 750 mg. capsule, not a 400 mg. capsule. Most manufacturer's only sell a 400 mg. capsule. In order to get the full appetite suppressing effects of this supplement, you will need around 3000 mg. of Hoodia per day, so consider the number of capsules you will need to take per day when deciding on which brand is the best buy. You may get the 400 mg. capsules cheaper than the 750 mg. capsules, but you will need to take more per day, which will ultimately end up costing you more money.

If a company is advertising pure Hoodia for less than $40 per bottle of 60 (400 mg.) capsules, you can be sure that it is not pure Hoodia; it is diluted with other ingredients or bulk fillers and contains little or no pure Hoodia from South Africa. Based on the current cost of Hoodia, there is no way that any company could afford to “give away” the product.

If you are tempted to believe the false advertisements and testimonials and try a brand that is advertised as “pure hoodia” at a price that is much cheaper than Desert Burn, you should take some time to re-read the posts on this blog and research the product first. Saving money is a great thing, but wasting money is foolish!

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) affects many people across the nation. Although it is well known for being a child's disorder, ADHD affects people of all ages. There is no cure for this disorder, but there are many medications to treat it on the market today.

Strattera is among the newest of the medications for treating ADHD. Unlike Adderall XR, Concerta, Focalin, & Ritalin, Strattera is a non-stimulant drug. One may question how Strattera actually works since it isn't a stimulant. Strattera acts as a potent inhibitor of the presynaptic norepinephrine transporter. This causes more norepinephrine to be available which increases attention & hyperactivity and impulsivity. As with the stimulant drugs, though, it is also still a mystery on how Strattera works exactly.

Strattera benefits adults & children in a number of ways. One benefit in using Strattera is a full day of symptom relief. It provides relief from ADHD symptoms throughout the day and into the evening. There are also continuous symptom improvements when using Strattera. Over the first month of taking it, your system gradually adjusts to Strattera, and it can provide effective ADHD system management. Also, Strattera does not cause insomnia in children and adolescents. Additionally, it is a non-controlled medication and has not shown any potential for abuse.

As with most any medication, there are a few side effect warnings included with the use of Strattera. However, most children who experienced side effects in the clinical studies were not bothered enough to quit taking Strattera. Some side effects include upset stomach, decreased appetite, nausea or vomiting, dizziness, tiredness, and mood swings.

Six research studies have already been conducted to show how safe & effective Strattera is. Strattera claims to be “the first non-controlled medication that's FDA-approved to treat ADHD.” It is available by prescription only, so if you are interested in trying Strattera, it is recommended that you ask your doctor if he/she thinks Strattera would be right for you.

Pinworms are a type of roundworm. This infection is pretty common in the US. These roundworms are classified as parasites. They use your body as a shelter to keep living and once there, they multiply themselves. Their little microscopic eggs will hatch and mature into adults. Adults measure anywhere from five to ten centimeters. Though it is really disgusting, these roundworms make your intestines home to them. They lay eggs in the anal area, after going through your digestive system.

You won't usually know you have any pinworms. That is, not until your digestive tract is infested with many worms. This is where you can get sick, and have complications, when pinworms are taking over inside the digestive system.

If you are only having a light case of pinworms in the body, you won't really notice anything. When they begin their multiplying process however, you'll have, (1) itching in the anus, (2) sleeplessness, (3) agitation, and (4) feeling nauseated and having a stomach ache.

When you are reaching this point, you need to see your doctor as soon as possible for diagnosis and treatment.

Doctors diagnose pinworms by using what is commonly called the tape test. Once you describe your symptoms, this is the test you will receive first. Using a cellophane piece of tape, your doctor will place this into a portion of your anus. After taking what might be several samples on your own at home as well, they will be looked at under a microscope. These pinworms can be seen very clearly there.

If people are really infested with these worms in the hundreds, they'll even notice them outside the anus and in the toilet, possibly.

Medications that treat parasites are used to correct pinworms. Drugs such as Pin-X or Albenza can be used and are most effective for treatment. The medication's objective is to kill these worms along with the sources that can cause infections. If the pinworms are really bad in your system, you'll maybe need several rounds of treatment before it all goes away.

Since anal itch is common with a lot of pinworms, the doctor will probably also prescribe some type of oinment that is really soothing to the anal area. Not scratching is really important since it will only provoke the infection that is taking place inside, allowing it not to heal.

Handwashing is a good practice with antibacterial soaps. You can pick up pinworm eggs from dirty hands where you might have picked up infections in certain places. Contaminated food can also be the source of pinworm infections to begin with. Be sure all meat is cooked very well, and that surfaces are clean when you cook.

Millions of Americans apply for Social Security Disability every year. Many of these applicants will be denied whether or not they feel that they are disabled. Social Security Disability has a list of impairments that they use to determine whether or not a person is disabled. There are exceptions, but these are mainly what they go by. These impairments are permanent medical conditions that severely limit a persons ability to perform daily activities. Some of these impairments are expected to result in death, therefore, Social Security Disability is granted.

Do I Qualify for Social Security Disability?: Musculoskeletal System

The impairments covered under the musculoskeletal system category can result from an acquired pathologic process, can be hereditary or can be congenital. They may result from toxic/metabolic diseases, infectious diseases, vascular diseases, inflammatory diseases, neoplastic diseases, degenerative processes or developmental or traumatic events. Conditions such as major joint dysfunction, certain types of surgery performed on a major weight-bearing joint, certain spinal disorders (i.e., vertebral fracture, herniated nucleus pulposus, facet arthritis, spinal arachnoiditis, degenerative disc disease, osteoarthritis and spinal stenosis that compromise the spinal cord, a nerve root and/or the cauda equina), amputation, certain fractures or soft tissue injury (i.e., burns) may qualify for Social Security Disability.

Conditions such as soft tissues tumors in the neck and head, related skin diseases, soft tissue sarcoma, lymphoma, leukemia, multiple myeloma, malignancy in the salivary glands, malignancy in the thyroid gland, malignancy in the breasts, skeletal system sarcoma or carcinoma, malignancy in the orbit, maxilla or temporal fossa, malignancy in the nervous system, malignancy in the lungs, malignancy in the mediastinum or pleura, malignancy in the stomach or esophagus, malignancy in the large intestine, malignancy in the small intestine, malignancy in the gallbladder or liver, malignancy in the pancreas, adrenal glands, kidneys or ureters-carcinoma, urinary bladder carcinoma, carcinoma or sarcoma in the female genital tract, carcinoma in the prostate gland, malignancy in the testicles or penis, malignant neoplastic diseases that have been or are being treated by stem cell implantation or bone marrow may qualify for Social Security Disability.

Do I Qualify for Social Security Disability?: Immune System Disorders

The impairments covered under the immune system disorders category can result from an acquired pathologic process, can be hereditary or can be congenital. They may result from toxic/metabolic diseases, infectious diseases, vascular diseases, inflammatory diseases, neoplastic diseases, degenerative processes or developmental or traumatic events. Conditions such as systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic vasculitis, systemic sclerosis (scleroderma), dermatomyositis and polymyositis, mixed and undifferentiated connective tissue disease, immune deficiency disorders (excludes HIV infection), human immunodeficiency virus infection, inflammatory arthritis or Sjogren's syndrome may qualify for Social Security Disability.

Just because you or someone you know may suffer from one of the above mentioned medical conditions does not mean that you or they will be approved for Social Security Disability. There are exceptions to every medical condition listed. If you feel that you would qualify, you should apply. If you get turned down, you are able to appeal that decision.

Not very many people have ever heard of Proctitis. Proctitis is an inflammation of your anus and the lining of your rectum, which is the lower part of the intestine leading to the anus. Symptoms of Proctitis can vary greatly. Some people may have minor problems while others have more severe. Because this condition affects the last six inches of the rectum, it can cause pain during a bowel movement, involuntary spasms and cramping during bowel movements, soreness in your anal and rectal area, and even possibly bleeding and discharge. Proctitis can persist in people for a short amount of time such as weeks or it can last for months or years.

The causes of proctitis vary. Sexually transmitted diseases are the most common cause. It usually spawns from honorrhea, syphilis, herpes, anal warts, and Chlamydia. Proctitis is mostly common in homosexual men and people who engage in oral and anal intercourse with many partners. However, there are causes of proctitis that is nonsexually transmitted. These are usually caused by infections in the body. Chron disease and ulcerative colitis also play a factor. Being exposed to harmful physical agents such as chemicals and foreign objects being placed in the rectum that causes trauma can cause proctitis. Radiation and antibiotics from another illness can also cause a reaction in your body to have rectal irritation.

Doctors diagnose proctitis depending on the suspected cause of it. Your doctor will ask for a thorough medical history to determine if you have any high risk sexual behaviors. Most of the time, a colonoscopy or proctosigmoidoscopy is done to determine what caused the condition to form in your body. This is when a lighted tube with a camera is passed through the anus and is used to look at the surface of your rectum. The picture comes up on a screen. A biopsy is usually done with this procedure. A small piece of tissue is taken from your rectum for testing for disease or infection.

Treatment of proctitis greatly depends on the causes of the disease. If it is because of a sexually transmitted disease, the doctor may give an antibiotic to kill the organism or an injection. If the cause is because of an inflammatory disease the patient may receive steroids such as suppository steroids. Proctitis can be treatable, and involve making healthy choices in your life.

Frequent testing and treatment of infection does not reduce the prevalence of chlamydia in urban teenage girls, according to a long term study by Indiana University School of Medicine researchers published in the January 1, 2010 issue of the Journal of Infectious Diseases.

Despite the fact they were screened every three months and treated when infected, the proportion of infected girls did not change over the course of the study. On entering the study, 10.9 percent of the young women were infected. After 18 months of participation, 10.6 percent were infected; 10.4 percent were infected at the four-year mark.

Eighty-four percent of repeated infections were reinfections. In spite of being so highly motivated that they kept diaries of their sexual encounters and interacted at least quarterly with the study staff, some of the young women had unprotected sex with either an untreated partner or a new partner and subsequent infection occurred. The researchers determined that 13 percent of repeated infections were due to failure of antibiotics to cure an earlier infection; considering all infections, antibiotic treatment was 92.1 percent effective.

“The rate of infection we found in the 365 Indianapolis girls we followed is similar to the rates reported by other researchers for girls in Denver and Baltimore, so it is likely that our important new findings on reinfection can be generalized to urban teenage girls in other cities,” said Byron E. Batteiger, M.D., professor of medicine at the IU School of Medicine, an infectious disease specialist who is the first author of the study.

The researchers obtained a biological sample from as many sex partners of the study participants as possible to determine if the boys were chlamydia infected. “We were able to test 22.6 percent of all the partners that the girls named in the study. We determined that 26.2 percent of the participating boys were infected – a very high level of infection in this pool of young men to whom young women in the study were exposed,” noted Dr. Batteiger.

Current national recommendations call for routine chlamydia screening of women based on age and history of sexual activity. There is no similar recommendation for screening young men.

“The high rate of reinfection we found in our study strongly suggests there may be some real limits on what we can do to control chlamydia without doing a better job of controlling chlamydia in young men,” said J. Dennis Fortenberry M.D. M.S., professor of pediatrics at the IU School of Medicine, an adolescent medicine physician who is the senior author of the study.

“We also need to make sure that sexually active teens are aware of fact that unlike some other diseases, having chlamydia and being successfully treated for it does not give the individual immunity from reoccurrence,” said Dr. Fortenberry, who urges physicians to repeatedly screen adolescents for the disease.

Chlamydia is the most common bacterial sexually transmitted infection and is associated with an increased risk of pelvic inflammatory disease, ectopic pregnancy, tubal infertility, and increased susceptibility to human immunodeficiency virus infection. Chlamydia is more common in sexually active teens than in any other age group.

In addition to Dr. Batteiger and Dr. Fortenberry, co-authors of the study are IU School of Medicine faculty members Wanzhu Tu, Ph.D.; Susan Ofner, M.S.; Barbara Van Der Pol, Ph.D.; Diane R. Stothard, Ph.D.; Donald P. Orr, M.D.; and Barry P. Katz, Ph.D. In addition to their IU affiliations, Dr. Tu is a Regenstrief Institute investigator, Dr. Orr and Dr. Katz are Regenstrief Institute affiliated scientists and Dr. Van Der Pol is with the Marion County Department of Health. Dr. Stothard, formerly with the IU School of Medicine, is presently affiliated with Eli Lilly and Company. The study was funded by the National Institutes of Health.

The IU School of Medicine is located on the Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis campus.

You read articles and research briefs everyday in newspapers, on the web, and in magazines. Many are negative about alternative medicine. Often those articles are read as the views presented was the gospel true. This is not true in many cases so how do we know what is the truth?

Much of the research published or presented in newspaper and magazines was not researched with integrity. Research on any subject should be performed without bias to secure the truth in that subject matter. The research should be conducted with proper and consistent research principals. Research done without these principles is just a tool to brainwash the public or to keep the research institution in business. Research is big money to the men who head the research and the research institution. Where money is, greed often feeds.

An example of flawed research and its impact on society is the research data that eggs were not good for you conducted in the 50's. The Cereal Institute of America conducted that research on dried egg yolk powder. There were many flaws in this research including that it was done only on the yolk portion and that the product was dried and not fresh product. The findings of this flawed research were considered gospel for years and some people still think eggs are not good for you.

Research in recent years have proven the 50's egg research and its conclusions flawed, but it influenced how we eat for years. Since it was the cereal industry that conducted the research, perhaps one should have questioned the integrity present to begin with. Eggs were the main breakfast for most Americans until the cereal industry and all its brands were created. That flawed research study directly benefited the sale of cereal. Much of our cereal products for children are low in protein, fiber, and vitamins. Most are extremely high in sugar and more a desert than suitable breakfast.

Many research institutions and their findings have been found to be flawed and in some cases later proven to be outright fraud. Dr. Jerry Bergman, a well known writer, teacher and researcher with several degrees states in his published paper, Why The Epidemic of Fraud Exists in Science Today, “The study found 94 cancer papers 'likely' contained manipulated data. Two years later, many of the papers were still not retracted. This confirms the conclusion that 'even when scientific misconduct is proven, no reliable mechanism exists to remove bad information from the literature. ''

I encourage you to read the articles below on research fraud for yourself. You will then see just how entrenched science and medicine has become with lies, false data, and flawed conclusions.. Some very famous research as you will discover has been found to be fraudulent. Here are the links to read more on research fraud: http://creation.com/images/pdfs/tj/j18_3/j18_3_104-109.pdf , http://ccnmtl.columbia.edu/projects/rcr/rcr_misconduct/foundation/index.html and http://www.rsdfoundation.org/en/Fraud.htm

Here are some distinctions to use when evaluating research studies and articles:

Does the newspaper or magazine tend to be slanted toward conservative views or views only that support standard medicine?

It is a fact that some periodicals are more prone to publish articles slanted toward the right or left. Some are very conservative and will not publish any material that is not generally accepted by the AMA. The publisher and copy editors often edit the article to the point that the original article intent is lost or changed. Sometimes by this method it may reflect views that are completely different from the original intent of the writer.

Who conducted the research? What is the reputation of the research institution?

Have there been cases of fraud in the past with this institution? Is there a conflict of interest? Wonder about the validity of a research paper that smoking does not cause lung disease that is financially supported by the cigarette industry. If you were a research firm getting $400,000 from the cigarette industry to prove that smoking does not hurt your health, what might happen when your research proves it does? Don't you see the conflict of interest in this example?

What were the perimeters of the research study? These perimeters in themselves can mean the success or failure of a study.

Was the study conducted on rats, monkeys, or humans? How many animals or humans participated in the study?

One study giving a certain result does not tell the whole story. Even studies conducted with integrity may be missing criteria that are important and perhaps critical. Understand that there may be issues and factors not seen or accounted for influencing the results of that study and the conclusions reached.

How many patients and what was the ethnic background of the patients who participated in the study? Some diseases are more prevalent in some ethnic heritages.

What was their ages and health status of the participants at the beginning of the research? People who have a history of smoking may not respond the same way to a program as patients who have never smoked. If their immune function is compromised to begin with, they may not respond at all or as quickly. It may take more of a product to achieve results. If the patients are obese, lack sleep, are under stress or nutritionally deficient, they may respond more slowly or not at all. If they do not believe that a program can work, it can influence their response. How were the patients monitored, medically evaluated and for what period of time?

How was the research conducted?

What products and quality of products were used? There is a significant difference in the quality of herbs and vitamin products. This quality or lack of quality will determine the failure or success of the study. The form of the vitamin or herb makes a difference. Certain forms of vitamins are more absorbable than others. Calcium citrate is a higher form of calcium than oyster shell and much easier for the body to utilize. For many people with compromised stomach digestion, tablets are much harder to digest than gel caps or liquids.

Was the dosage level high enough to do any good? If the dosage is too low then the research will be a failure. Was the dosage too high giving in effect an overdose of the product? Any food, vitamin or substance can be given to the point of overdose including water. When dosages are too high there may be allergy reactions or imbalances created. An example would be giving patients a dose of 5000 milligrams of Magnesium when the usual dosage is 100 milligrams. One does not usually drink comfrey tea all day. If you drink too much of it, you may very well have problems with comfrey and any other tea. I can drink one cup of coffee and have stomach pain and mouth ulcers within one day. Your sensitivity to a substance also makes a difference such as the case of orange juice. In many women, orange juice due to its acidic content will cause bladder irritation.

Was the product or regimen given to the patient long enough to secure a result? Often this is the problem on why the study failed in its results. If you have been ill with colitis for 15 years, is it realistic for a month long research regimen to have a positive impact? The answer in most cases is no.

Years ago, I conducted a study under a doctor on the subject of digestive enzymes and their effect on food allergies. I did not realize until I was deep into the study that the doctor's intent was for me to fail. He gave me his most medically difficult patients including one with a mental disorder, one who had their stomach juices rerouted into the colon, one patient with unknown problems that other doctors had failed to help, and none were average patients. They did, in fact, all have food allergies. The compliance was not good with these patients because most had given up on feeling better. These patients had such long standing imbalances and disease states making it almost impossible to succeed. To his irritation, the patients that did stay on the program did see positive changes in the foods, they could eat without problems.

The result of the research project showed that 50 percent of the patients were able to eat more foods without problems. My research was given the thumbs down because he initiated that the results had to be in the 80 percent range to be worthwhile. At that time, the main treatment for food allergies was just to discontinue eating those foods. The research could not have succeeded to his goals with the quality of the patients I was given to enroll.

Unless the research is conducted with the true intent of truth with integrity and authenticity, then it is fraud. Just because it is written does not mean it is truth. Read articles no matter what the subject matter is with the parameters above. Question and consider before you bring it into your belief structure. Remember once it was considered fact that the earth was flat. That was concrete science until that fact was proven false.
